The story of Rusi Leather dates back to 1938, after the birth of their second son, Walter and Luisa Rusi decided to use their leather working knowledge and open a business in Bern, Switzerland.
The business grew thanks to the hard work Luisa put in and it stayed in the family for three generations, passing from her to Martin Rusi and then his son, Stefan Rusi.
Stefan Rusi moved to South Africa in 1993, thanks to finding the love of his life, bringing with him three generations of quality Swiss craftsmanship. He eventually opened up Rusi Leather in its current iteration in 1997 in Cape Town.

It was always Stefan Rusi’s dream to have a true factory store in the wonderful Cape Town, which is open to the public. You will have the opportunity to browse our Rusi factory store showcasing all the beautiful leather bags and accessories and after that we will take you on a little factory tour and introduce you to the ladies who craft these leather items. You can choose any colour of leather or fabric and we can even custom digitally print or hand-dye it for you.
